Sulfate-Free Hyaluronic Acid Shampoo

Sulfate-Free Hyaluronic Acid Shampoo

A natural shampoo that cleanses, moisturizes, soothes the scalp, and adds shine to the hair thanks to a formula containing active organic hydrosols, cationic hyaluronic acid, prebiotics, and plant-based keratin.

The first hyaluronic acid shampoo with no added water. Whereas traditional formulas dilute their active ingredients in 60 to 90 percent inert water, Madame d’Alexis Shampoo replaces the water base with three bioactive hydrosols. The result: each use delivers a high concentration of active ingredients to gently cleanse, moisturize, and care for the scalp.

Signature Complex

3 Plant-Based Proteins: Our Keratin-Strengthening Effect

At the heart of the Hydrating & Revitalizing Floral Shampoo, plant-based keratin is an exclusive complex of hydrolyzed wheat, corn, and soy proteins. Broken down into smaller molecules, they adhere more easily to weakened areas of the hair shaft to help smooth the cuticle and strengthen the hair from the very first wash.

01Wheat ProteinHelps build muscle and improve strength.
02Corn ProteinHelps promote greater flexibility and discipline.
03Soy ProteinSupports elasticity and natural shine.

This trio acts as a plant-based smoothing treatment: it helps reduce roughness, minimize breakage, and reveal softer, more supple, and shinier hair—without weighing it down or causing a loss of volume.

Reinforced fiber
Smoothed cuticle
Limited breakage
Subtle Shine
Smart Hydration

Cationic hyaluronic acid: the active ingredient that binds to the fiber

In addition to the 3-plant-protein complex, our formula includes cationic hyaluronic acid. Its positive charge allows it to adhere to the hair fiber—which is naturally negatively charged—to help lock in moisture longer and visibly smooth the cuticle starting with the first wash.

Long-Lasting MoistureHelps the fabric retain moisture better, wash after wash.
Lightweight Protective FilmProvides protection without leaving a greasy residue, is silicone-free, and won’t weigh hair down.
Shine & SoftnessThe cuticle appears smoother, and the hair feels softer and more manageable.

Sulfate-free shampoo vs. regular shampoo: What's the difference for the scalp?

Sulfates, such as SLS or SLES, are powerful surfactants that clean effectively but can also disrupt the microbiome and damage the scalp’s protective barrier. After each wash, the scalp may compensate by producing more sebum, creating a vicious cycle: the more you wash, the faster the roots become oily again.

A sulfate-free shampoo gently cleanses using plant-based surfactants. It preserves the scalp’s hydrolipidic film, maintains the balance of the microbiome, and helps prevent seborrheic flare-ups. Hair becomes oily less quickly, the scalp appears less irritated, and the hair shaft remains more supple.

Madame d’Alexis Shampoo goes a step further: its baseof active organic hydrosols replaces plain water and provides a naturally acidic pH that supports the skin’s natural flora. The prebiotics incorporated into the formula help maintain the balance of the microbiome with every wash.

Criterion Classic shampoo MDA Sulfate-Free Shampoo
Surfactants Harsh SLS / SLES Mild plant-based surfactants
Microbiome May be disrupted with each wash Supported by prebiotics
Seborrheic flare-up Common in people with sensitive scalps Limited by a mild formula
Moisturizing Base Inert water, which often makes up the majority Organic active hydrosols, with no added water
Hyaluronic acid Not included in most packages As a cationic compound, it adheres to the fiber
Sensitive scalp May cause irritation depending on the formulation Formulated to clean without stripping

How do you choose a natural shampoo?

Not all organic or natural shampoos are created equal. To distinguish a shampoo that truly cares for your hair and scalp from one that’s merely “clean” on the surface, there are several criteria to consider.

Surfactants: Make sure the product does not contain SLS or SLES. Choose mild, plant-based, biodegradable surfactants that cleanse without stripping the scalp’s hydrolipidic film.

The moisturizing base: A moisturizing shampoo formulated with inert water dilutes its active ingredients. A base of organic active hydrosols concentrates the active ingredients and provides a naturally acidic pH that is beneficial to the cuticle.

Scalp-nourishing ingredients: prebiotics support the microbiome, cationic hyaluronic acid provides deep hydration, and plant-based keratin strengthens the hair shaft as soon as you rinse it out. A silicone-free shampoo with these ingredients nourishes without causing buildup.

Choose the right product for your hair type: For dry hair, look for cationic hyaluronic acid and plant-based proteins. For oily hair, look for gentle purifying surfactants and regulating prebiotics. For curly hair, choose a sulfate- and silicone-free formula to preserve its natural definition.

Concentration of active ingredients: A formula with no added water contains a higher concentration of active ingredients than a diluted formula. Less dilution means more skincare benefits with every application.

A natural shampoo that moisturizes as much as it cleanses

Cationic hyaluronic acid is an advanced version of this skincare ingredient when applied to the hair. Its positive charge allows it to adhere to the hair fiber—which is naturally negatively charged—to provide longer-lasting hydration, smooth the cuticle, and protect against dehydration.

The complex of three hydrolyzed plant proteins—wheat, corn, and soy—delivers the formula’s signature keratin effect: it helps strengthen the hair fiber’s structure, improve elasticity, and reduce breakage. Prebiotics support the balance of the scalp’s microbiome, which is essential for healthier, long-lasting beauty.

Combined with the formula’s three bioactive hydrosols, this hyaluronic acid shampoo is ideal for hair that needs long-lasting hydration, shine, and lightness:

01 Organic Damask Rose Hydrosol

Hydration, soothing, and natural shine.

02 Organic chamomile hydrosol

Soothes sensitive scalps, promotes natural shine, and enhances the hair's softness.

03 Organic Orange Blossom Hydrosol

Invigorating and revitalizing effect; supports the roots and promotes healthier growth.

Sulfate- and silicone-free shampoo: why it makes all the difference for your scalp

Sulfates cleanse, but they can strip away the scalp’s natural hydrolipidic film and disrupt its balance. Silicones make hair feel smooth, but they can cause buildup on the hair shaft over time.

This natural shampoo, free of sulfates and silicones, gently cleanses using mild plant-based surfactants without disrupting the scalp’s natural balance. It is suitable for regular use, even on sensitive scalps, and leaves hair softer, more supple, and shinier.

What you'll notice, wash after wash

From the very first wash, hair is immediately softer, shinier, and easier to detangle. The scalp feels clean, without any dryness or tightness.

After 2 to 3 weeks, seborrheic flare-ups tend to subside. Hair becomes oily less quickly between washes. The scalp regains a more stable balance, and feelings of discomfort and itching subside.

After 4 to 6 weeks of regular use, the hair appears visibly strengthened by the plant-based protein complex. The hair is more resilient, breakage is reduced, and color-treated hair retains its shine better thanks to the sulfate-free formula.

For regular care, use the Shampoo 2 to 3 times a week, depending on your hair type. For oily or very thick hair, using the Floral Scrub every 10 to 15 days helps the scalp better absorb the shampoo’s active ingredients.

For which hair type?

Its formula, which is 98% naturally derived, is suitable for all hair types:

Dry, dull, or damaged hair: This moisturizing shampoo with cationic hyaluronic acid helps restore moisture strand by strand.
Oily hair or roots that get oily quickly: a gentle formula that cleanses without stripping the hair, to prevent the "rebound" effect.
Curly, wavy, or kinky hair: the cuticle is smoother, the hair is more supple, and frizz is better controlled.
Sensitive scalp: sulfate-free, silicone-free, paraben-free, with soothing organic hydrosols.

How do you use Madame d’Alexis Shampoo?

Shampoo twice for best results.
The first wash removes impurities, sebum, and residue.
The second wash allows the active ingredients—hydrosols, prebiotics, cationic hyaluronic acid, and plant-based keratin—to take full effect.
Apply to a thoroughly wet scalp; never apply to hair that is too dry.
Add a little water to create a lather, gently massage with your fingertips, then rinse thoroughly.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why has my hair become dull and brittle? What is really damaging it?

Dullness: a question of damaged cuticles Your hair looks dull because the cuticle (the outer layer) is damaged and no longer reflects light properly. A smooth, closed cuticle reflects light and creates shine. A damaged, open cuticle absorbs light and creates dullness. Harsh shampoos with sulfates open the cuticle and weaken it. Hard water clogs the scales and prevents light from reflecting. Repeated heat (hair dryer, flat iron) gradually damages the structure. Exposure to the sun and pollution oxidizes the fiber and makes it dull. Breakage: a question of the lipid barrier Breakage is caused by a damaged lipid barrier. This barrier retains moisture inside the fiber. When it is damaged, water escapes and the hair becomes dry, fragile, and brittle. Sulfates strip away this barrier. Without it, your hair cannot retain moisture. If you use a harsh shampoo, it strips away the lipid barrier, your hair loses moisture, it becomes dry and brittle, you wash it more often, and the cycle worsens. It's a vicious circle. How this shampoo repairs This sulfate-free shampoo respects the lipid barrier. Cationic hyaluronic acid deeply moisturizes. Organic hydrosols provide real nourishment. Plant-based keratin strengthens the structure. Together, they close the cuticle, restore the lipid barrier, and restore shine and strength to your hair. After a few uses, your hair will look shinier. After 2 to 3 weeks, breakage is visibly reduced. After 4 weeks, your hair is noticeably stronger and shinier. This is the effect of respecting and gradually repairing the cuticle.

What is cationic hyaluronic acid? How does it really work on hair?

Conventional hyaluronic acid vs. cationic hyaluronic acid Conventional hyaluronic acid has a neutral charge. It moisturizes, but does not penetrate very deeply. Cationic hyaluronic acid has a positive charge. This positive charge allows it to naturally adhere to the hair fiber (which has a negative charge). The result is deeper penetration and longer-lasting hydration. The hair fiber has a three-layer structure: the cuticle (outer layer), the cortex (middle layer), and the medulla (inner layer). Cationic hyaluronic acid passes through the cuticle and penetrates the cortex, where it binds to keratin. This is why hydration lasts longer than with conventional hyaluronic acid. Water retention: the secret Once in the cortex, cationic hyaluronic acid retains water like a sponge. A hyaluronic acid molecule can retain up to 1000 times its weight in water. This means that your hair stays hydrated long after washing. Prebiotics nourish the natural skin flora of the scalp. A balanced flora produces substances that help maintain hydration. Cationic hyaluronic acid plus prebiotics equals optimal, long-lasting hydration. Plant keratin: strengthening the structure Plant keratin fills in the gaps in the fiber created by damage. It improves elasticity and resistance. Combined with hyaluronic acid, it creates a stronger, more hydrated fiber. Your hair is hydrated from within (hyaluronic acid), structurally strengthened (keratin), and nourished (organic hydrosols). It's a comprehensive scientific approach that addresses all aspects of hair health.

My hair is colored/bleached/very damaged. Can this shampoo really repair it without causing further damage?

Yes, this shampoo is ideal for colored and damaged hair. Colored hair is structurally more fragile. Coloring opens the cuticle to deposit pigment, which weakens the fiber. You need a shampoo that cleans without further damaging your hair. That's exactly what this shampoo does. Sulfates open the cuticle and cause color pigments to escape. Your hair loses its color faster. Sulfates also damage the lipid barrier, making hair dry and brittle. This is why colored hair quickly becomes dull and fragile. How this shampoo protects color Without sulfates, this shampoo does not force the cuticle to open. The pigments stay inside longer. Your color lasts longer and stays more vibrant. Hyaluronic acid deeply moisturizes, which maintains the shine of the color. Severely damaged hair needs three things: deep hydration, structural reinforcement, and protection. This shampoo offers all three. Hyaluronic acid moisturizes, keratin strengthens, and organic hydrosols protect. How often to wash color-treated hair With this shampoo, you can space out your washes. The less you wash, the longer your color lasts. Many people with colored hair go from washing 3 times a week to 1 or 2 times a week. That's a huge improvement. This shampoo does not completely "repair" split ends. You still need to trim them. But it stops further damage and strengthens healthy hair. After a few weeks, your colored hair will look shinier, stronger, and healthier.

I have to wash my hair every day. How can I space out washes with this shampoo?

Yes, you can gradually space out your washes. If you wash your hair daily, it's probably because you're using a harsh shampoo that creates a rebound effect. With this gentle shampoo, you can gradually space out your washes. Continue washing your hair at your usual pace (daily or every other day) for the first two weeks. Your scalp will adapt to the new gentle shampoo. You will notice that your hair feels softer and less damaged. This is normal; your scalp is starting to rebalance itself. Gradual spacing phase After 2 to 3 weeks, start spacing out your washes slightly. If you wash daily, switch to every other day. If you wash every other day, switch to every 3 days. Take it slowly, as your scalp needs time to adjust. After 4 to 6 weeks, you can space out your washes even further. Most people manage 2 to 3 washes per week. Some even manage 1 to 2 washes per week. That's the goal: a balanced scalp that doesn't produce excess sebum. Tips for spacing out washes Use dry shampoo between washes to absorb excess sebum. Massage your scalp regularly to stimulate microcirculation and reduce sebum production. Avoid touching your hair too often, as this transfers sebum. Sleep on a silk pillowcase to reduce friction. Don't force yourself to space out washes. Listen to your scalp. If your hair is oily, wash it. But with this gentle shampoo, you will gradually find that you need to wash less often. It's a natural process, not a deprivation. The less you wash, the less you damage your scalp. The less you damage it, the more it rebalances itself. It's a virtuous circle. After a few months, you will have found your natural rhythm and your hair will be healthier.

I have fine hair. Won't this shampoo weigh it down? How much should I use?

That's a valid question. Many people with fine hair worry that moisturizing shampoos will weigh their hair down. The good news is that this shampoo is formulated to moisturize without weighing hair down, even fine hair. Cationic hyaluronic acid moisturizes without adding weight. It penetrates the hair fiber instead of remaining on the surface. Organic hydrosols are light and penetrating. Plant-based keratin strengthens without thickening. The result: deep hydration without feeling heavy. For fine hair, use a small amount (about the size of a pea). Emulsify well with a little water so that the lather spreads easily. Focus on the scalp and lengths, not the roots. Rinse thoroughly. Rinsing is crucial to remove any residue. For thick hair, use a full dollop. You can apply it to the entire head of hair, including the roots. Emulsify well. Rinse thoroughly. For very thick hair, you can use one and a half hazelnut-sized amounts. For very long hair, adjust the amount to the length. You can use one and a half to two hazelnut-sized amounts. Focus on the lengths and ends, which are drier. The roots need less product. For optimal cleansing, shampoo twice: the first time to remove impurities, the second time to allow the active ingredients to work fully. Use a small amount for each shampoo. Start with a small amount and gradually increase as needed. Every head of hair is different. You will quickly find the ideal amount for your hair. The important thing is to emulsify well and rinse thoroughly.

Why is this shampoo better than a conventional shampoo? What is the real difference?

Conventional shampoo contains sulfates (SLS, SLES), which are very harsh detergents. This shampoo does not contain sulfates. This is a fundamental difference that changes everything. Sulfates remove ALL sebum, including the natural protective sebum. Your scalp panics and produces even more sebum to compensate. This is the rebound effect: the more you wash, the oilier your hair becomes. It's a vicious, self-perpetuating cycle. Without sulfates, this shampoo effectively cleanses by removing excess sebum and impurities, while preserving the natural protective sebum. Your scalp no longer panics. After a few weeks, it produces a normal amount of sebum. Conventional shampoos contain inert water that evaporates after washing. This shampoo contains cationic hyaluronic acid that penetrates the fiber and stays there. Hydration lasts long after washing. Conventional shampoos contain a lot of inert water. This shampoo contains 100% organic active hydrosols (Damask rose, chamomile, orange blossom). These hydrosols contain aromatic molecules, minerals, and antioxidants that provide real nourishment. Conventional shampoos do not contain enough keratin. This shampoo is rich in keratin. Keratin strengthens the internal structure of the hair and improves elasticity. Your hair is stronger and less brittle. 98% natural ingredients, free from sulfates, parabens, and silicones. Conventional shampoos often contain harsh ingredients that damage the scalp in the long term. This shampoo respects your scalp while strengthening it. A conventional shampoo costs $3-8 and lasts 1 month. This shampoo is more expensive but lasts 2 months and offers 3 times better results. The cost per use is comparable, but the effectiveness is much higher. After one use, you will feel the difference. Your hair will be more supple and shiny. After 2 to 3 weeks, the transformation will be visible. After 4 weeks, your hair will be noticeably stronger, shinier, and healthier. That's why this shampoo is superior to conventional shampoos.
